In 1976 Porsche needed an entry-level car for the US market. Porsche had a number of left over two-liter, four-cylinder 914 engines. The 912E was born. The last 912 ever built.
The 912E was produced for just one model year and exported exclusively to the US. Never sold new in Europe. Each US dealership was allocated one car per-month for the first six months of 1976. That's it. Only 2,093 were built, 500 with sunroofs. My car is #1404 with sunroof. Classic, pristine and award winning.
